Terry was offered loans and credit cards and took them on thinking he would manage to pay them back sometime, but it was always tomorrow, and tomorrow never comes. Terry found himself getting deeper and deeper into debt and became withdrawn from those around him.
“I found myself stuck but just looked inward to try and deal with my situation because I felt unable to explain it to people”
Eventually, he reached the point where he knew he had to seek help and was told about Riverside Money Advice and the help they could offer. We came to his house and saw the mess he was in with paperwork everywhere. We quickly started working on the information methodically and putting things in order. e RMA team helped by putting a debt management programme in place – this gave Terry a budget to stick to each week and put a payment plan in place with creditors.
“Within 4 or 5 weeks the calls for money stopped and suddenly a lot of pressure was taken from me.”
Having got his life back on a steady path, Terry found the motivation to learn some new skills and he is optimistic about the future. Terry went back to college and passed his maths exams. Having been through the debt awareness programme he is now using his experiences to help others through voluntary work. It will still take some time for him to be debt free but he is so happy at this moment in his life knowing what the place of desperation he has been in but coming through to where he is going now.
